
StemMed Data Lab
Curious about data science and looking for a place to start?
StemMed Data Lab is a 4 workshop series from March 1st to March 22nd designed to equip students with introductory data analysis skills through a collaborative, team-based data science project. This program includes 4 mandatory meetings and roughly 2 dozen participants.
The program is entirely virtual and introduces the basics of data analysis to students, and is thus designed for those without prior experience in data analysis. The program includes opportunities to interact with data science professionals and gain insights through Q&A.
All applications are due February 6th at 11:59PM PST.

Runs from March 1st to March 22nd

Meets Sundays, 12–2 PM PST, once a week for 4 weeks

You'll also work outside of sessions on weekly assignments

Support and mentorship provided by team leads
Please do NOT apply if you already have prior data science experience, as this program is designed to prioritize students who have not yet had the opportunity.

Data Cleaning
Overview of how to obtain data and clean it using readily available tools. Hands-on activity to clean data with break out sessions and live feedback.
Lecture Topics
Data Visualization
Understanding how to visualize data based on what type of data is available and how to gain key insights via data visualization. Students will have the opportunity to see their dataset become readable in real-time.

Data Correlation
Students will learn the importance of tying data insights to statical tests and data visualization to draw a conclusion from their data.

Presentation & Industry Chat
Students will present their final projects and data insights to their fellow program-mates. They will also have the opportunity to connect with an industry professional, working in data science.
